If Pro is the Opposite of Con, what is the Opposite of Progress?
The US declaration of independence states that:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Webster’s dictionary defines being equal as:
1as great as; the same as. 2evenly proportioned or balanced
The US Constitution lays out for us what congress shall be comprised of:
The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States, and the Electors in each State shall have the Qualifications requisite for Electors of the most numerous Branch of the State Legislature.

If all men are created equal, and equality is being the same as, our congress is elected to be our representatives, our equals that are evenly proportioned or balanced. Yet we find ourselves at an impasse, forced into a sequester of funding because our elected officials could not work together and balance a budget. The consequences of this sequestration will be widely felt beyond the government employees that are being furloughed or having the pay cut by up to 20%. Those employees will not be able to spend their money on gas, entertainment, restaurants, or groceries. Yet our congress, our elected equal representatives, will see no change in their pay. Actually, quite the opposite, as President Obama signed an executive order, giving them a 0.5% raise in salary effective March 27th.

How can we have faith in, and support , a government that does not take responsibility for its actions? Congress should STEP UP and join those furloughed employees without pay, but working to solve our current situation. The average pay of Congress is $174,000, multiplied by 535 voting member is $93,090,000 and should help to balance the necessary cuts until a balanced budget can be passed. Political parties should not separate our elected representatives from doing their job.

This is a call to all of CONgress to JOIN US in feeling the pain of their lack of PROgress.
